Tariq R. Choudhary, Former President,

UKPCCI.

Eilaf Media Services is contributing tremendously in the area of media and marketing. I am delighted to see its new project of the UK Pakistani Business Directory. This is a successful effort to bring Pakistani and UK business community close to each other. I found this directory a rich and comprehensive source of information about Pakistani businessmen in UK. Mr. Nadeem Mirza, chief executive, Eilaf Media Services, has put his best efforts and skills in bringing this directory to business community. UKPCCI congratulates Eilaf Media Services in contributing its efforts towards better services for Pakistani business community in UK and Pakistan. I hope that more pakistani businessmen will contribute in this effort by putting their information in the directory, if they haven’t, to make it a complete source for our business community.

UK Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (UKPCCI), established in1979, is a non-political, non-profit making, independent body which aims to develop an infrastructure to facilitate bilateral trade, commerce & investment. The main services provided by this organisation are to bring buyers and sellers from UK & Pakistan, together, with a view to building mutually beneficial business relationships.

The team at UKPCCI consists of businesspersons and professionals belonging to different sectors and industries. Through hard work and commitment, they have worked together to promote active business links with Pakistan.  At this point a special mention must be made to the outstanding contribution made by the former president of UKPCCI, Sir Anwar Pervez OBE. His strong dedication and leadership in the formative years of this organisation have greatly helped in uplifting the image and position of the Chamber.

The Chamber has built a steady reputation of a body that is committed to providing links with top-level economic decision-makers and the business community.  Regular updates are organised between British & Pakistani diplomats. New ideas and current business issues are discussed.  Forums for economic updates are provided.  To this end, the Chamber receives full support and encouragement from Dr Maleeha Lodhi, High Commissioner of Pakistan, London and Mr Anjum Bashir, Commercial Counsellor.

Aswell as providing opportunities of networking with high officials of Pakistan and UK, it also acts as a “helping partner” to the government of Pakistan to promote trade between the two nations. In October 2003, it helped its members to acquire an order for Pakistani textiles worth $3.5 million. The Chamber is also campaigning vigorously against the anti-dumping duty imposed by EC on Pakistani textiles.

In an effort to promote interaction, UKPCCI has submitted a bid to the EU for a grant to finance a visit of 20 members to Pakistan. The purpose of this delegation is to educate exporters (who are in the fields of Health, IT, Construction, Pharmaceuticals, Environment, Marketing & Media) in ways to make inroads into the European Union markets.

We create platforms to provide enormous opportunities to our members.  The visit to Expo 2005 to Karachi, Pakistan in February 2005 was one of its kind, which enabled large number of UKPCCI’s members to attend that mega exhibition and explore possible business prospects.

Today UKPCCI enjoys great honour and prestige among the Pakistani community in Britain. Efforts are continually being made to welcome and encourage membership and participation from the community.
